Cosmic Overview:
This week, Mercury joins the love goddess (Venus) by turning retrograde in Aquarius on Friday morning. Mercury will remain retrograde until February 3, 2022.
At its root, the sign of Aquarius is about how we can improve our lives. Aquarius is about progress and pushing society forward, rather than staying stuck in the present or being bound to the past. Mercury moving through Aquarius augurs a time when we should focus on areas where we can improve our lives or focus on what needs to be fixed or repaired. Mercury turning retrograde in Aquarius helps us look at the decisions and choices we have made over the past three months that may be preventing our growth. This gives us the chance to course correct if necessary. The silver lining is that with Mercury being retrograde, we can see the areas that need to be fixed easier.
Mercury retrogrades before it can complete its conjunction to Saturn, but it will remain within orb for the next week. Mercury conjoined to Saturn is frustrating and can lead to negative mindsets. It may be difficult to communicate and express yourself to others. So, try to push away negative thoughts as they surface, and you may need to practice some self-care to manage your emotions.
Otherwise, traditional Mercury retrograde warnings are applicable. Make sure you back up electronic devices, finalize plans, and sign documents before the retrograde begins. Here is a checklist to help you during the retrograde cycle.

Let’s begin with the recommendations (Notice I didn’t use the lists of should or should not? Mainly because we should never should on ourselves).
- Make sure you go over anything contractual thoroughly. Make sure all the i’s are dotted, and all the t’s are crossed. If you can get away with it, wait until after the retrograde is over to sign on the dotted line.
- Avoid starting anything new. New projects tend to have communication problems and mishaps when initiated during this process.
- Put a watch on your tongue. (If it is not worth saying, don’t say it)
- Check your vehicles for any potential problems. Before Mercury goes retrograde, is the best time for a service call.
- Avoid buying real estate or renting apartments. Usually, this means you will move again during a future Mercury Rx.
- Using mail delivery services that offer tracking and insurance.
- Check, recheck, and check again any travel plans you have or appointments on the books.
- If you do travel, don’t take anything of importance or value. Only bring items that you do not care if they are lost or stolen.
- Expect people from the past to resurface. However, once they crawl out of whatever cavern they came from, proceed with caution.
- Back up all electronic devices.
- Avoid buying an automobile.
- Mercury Rx is an excellent time to scour places (online and offline) for great deals!
Now, that is some list. But, if you want to avoid the most annoying tricks Mercury has up his sleeve, it is wise to pay close attention and organize (Mercury loves that word) accordingly. The headliner this week is Jupiter, who is finally moving out of Aquarius and back into his own sign of Pisces.
But, what’s the big deal about the big guy in the sky?
Jupiter is how we develop meaning in life. He is optimistic, benevolent, and expansive. He uplifts anything in the chart he touches, and is the Santa Claus figure of the cosmos. Since Jupiter rules Pisces, the sign he moves into on December 28, he has an added boost of planetary power and can help troubling matters. Essentially, Jupiter is our “Lucky Star.”
Jupiter in Pisces renews our faith through our belief in other human beings. I know that this is difficult to understand with so much division and strife in our world, especially since Jupiter’s benevolence has been reduced, being in the same sign as Saturn for two years. However, once Jupiter enters Pisces, he is free from Saturn’s influence, and our love and empathy for others should begin to return. Since Pisces is a malleable sign, we may begin to see people more receptive to the plight of others, and we can hope that selfishness is put aside for the greater good. More importantly, we will all be a little more compassionate in our dealings with others.
The first New Moon of the Year happens on January 2nd in Capricorn. This is the most powerful point of Capricorn season, and it’s an auspicious time to start the year on a solid footing, especially since Capricorn season is goal-oriented and can give you an extra boost.
This New Moon is excellent for finding a new job, getting a promotion or raise, starting a business, or doing maintenance magic or intention work on an existing business. Capricorn season is also excellent for reputation building and repair. And, of course, since Capricorn is an earth sign, focusing on your finances never hurt anyone.

Remain as proactive as possible, and don’t react to anything you may potentially regret later.

Wednesday brings us two major aspects – Mercury conjunct Venus Rx and Mars sextile Saturn.
During the early morning hours, Mercury conjoins Venus Rx in Capricorn. If you’ve experienced troubles in your relationships because of Venus Rx, Mercury conjoining the love goddess will help you understand your relationship on a deeper level. It’s also a good time to open the lines of communication and get your feelings out in the open in a constructive way.
Later in the day, Mars sextiles Saturn in Aquarius. Mars sextile Saturn augurs a time to plan and strategize your next step. It’s great for career ambitions, and you should use this energy to go after what you want, especially if it’s something you would love to do. The only drawback to this aspect is the need to be patient and take things one step at a time. The slower you go, the better your results will be.

During the early morning hours, Mercury moves into Aquarius, the sign he will turn retrograde in on January 14th. Mercury in Aquarius helps us put the puzzles and pieces of life together, as we understand that life is a tapestry of one experience leading to another. We are given the gift of understanding patterns both personally and universally. While Mercury is in Aquarius, it’s much easier to get to the truth and use it to your advantage.
