Human beings are remarkable storytellers, especially when it comes to explaining why we remain attached to people and situations that make us miserable. We can transform an unanswered text message into evidence of a complicated emotional struggle, interpret someone’s inconsistent behavior as proof of their fear of intimacy, or convince ourselves that a relationship would be perfect if circumstances were just a little different. Sometimes these explanations contain a grain of truth. Other times, they become elaborate psychological defenses that protect us from acknowledging something we already suspect.

Scorpio Season: When Control Fails and the Underworld Takes Over

I have to admit, I have been obsessed with Medusa since I first read Edith Hamilton’s Mythology in high school. I have returned to her again and again because, for me, she remains one of the most important figures in Scorpio’s vast mythology. Medusa understands what it means to be changed by violation, to turn vulnerability into defense, and to carry a form of power that frightens people because they do not understand where it came from. Last year, I used her story to explore Scorpio through trauma, rage, shadow, and the ways we can become psychologically petrified by experiences we have never fully processed. Yet Scorpio contains more than one underworld, and this year I found myself pulled toward another story, one that asks a different question.

Medusa brought us face-to-face with the wound. Inanna takes us further into the part of Scorpio that begins when consciousness discovers there are forces it cannot command.

October 12–18, 2026: The Week You See What’s Been Controlling the Story

Pluto turns direct in Aquarius this week, bringing something that has been developing beneath the surface into sharper focus. Fear, control, resentment, compulsion, power struggles, and old survival strategies become harder to dismiss once they begin showing themselves plainly. These are the patterns that can quietly organize our behavior long after we have forgotten why we developed them in the first place.

You Can Begin Again, but the Terms Have Changed: October 5–11, 2026

Venus retrograde remains the VIP this week, and her position in Scorpio gives the days ahead a much more complicated emotional texture than a simple review of relationships or finances. Venus governs what we value, what attracts us, what gives us pleasure, and the ways we determine worth. When retrograde, Venus turns those questions inward. In Scorpio, she is less interested in surface preferences than in the emotional investments beneath them, especially when desire has become entangled with pride, fear, resentment, security, or the need to feel chosen.

Venus Retrograde in Scorpio: Have We Forgotten What Wealth Is?

Whenever Venus turns retrograde, astrology tends to narrow the conversation almost immediately. Attention moves toward former lovers, unfinished romantic business, old attractions, and the possibility that someone from the past may suddenly reappear. Relationships belong to Venus, so none of this is misplaced, but it leaves out a substantial part of what Venus represents. Venus is also concerned with money, pleasure, exchange, desire, taste, self-worth, and the judgments we make about what something is worth to us. This week has a way of bringing old material back into view, especially the desires, resentments, attachments, and compromises we thought we had already dealt with.

Venus turns retrograde in Scorpio on Saturday, beginning a period of review around desire, money, relationships, pleasure, and self-worth. Scorpio adds considerably more weight to the process because it remembers what we would prefer to file away. Old attractions can resurface, financial entanglements may demand another look, and unresolved feelings can prove that time has not done quite as much work as we assumed. Jealousy, resentment, loyalty, trust, and questions of emotional ownership may all return to the conversation.
