The Moon in the Horoscope

Lunar Cookbook: The Placement of the Moon in the Horoscope

The Moon in the HoroscopeIn the last episode of Keep It Magic, Jacki and I explored the Moon from the psychological and mythological perspective.  It is one of the episodes I am the most proud of because I feel that understanding yourself on a deeper level ultimately gives you the ability to make better choices as well as be more sympathetic to those around you.  If you have not listened to the last episode, I have provided the widget at the end of this article as an audio companion.

Now here is your cheat sheet to help you with interpreting and understanding your personal moon placement which I did not have time to do on the show.  If you need to find out where in the heavens your moon is, you can get a copy of your chart for free on my website.  If you need help interpreting your chart, then I have provided this free tutorial to assist you.

Finding Your Inner Gold -- The Moon

Finding Your Inner Gold — The Moon

Finding Your Inner Gold -- The MoonI’m excited about the next four episodes of Keep It Magic.  Over the years, Jacki Smith and I have had numerous requests for more astrology content on the show.  We have done a bit over the last 3 years (yes we are at the tail end of Season 3), but creating them can be rather tricky.  Our challenge has always been how to create an inclusive content about astrology without focusing heavily on individual astrological positions.  So we have decided to do shows on the planets meanings and mythologies in order to provide our listeners with a more rounded view of the individual planets and everything they encompass.

Our first episode is on the Astrological Moon.  In my opinion, the Moon gets far less astrological press and attention than it should.  Perhaps, the reason is that we live in a solar conscious society that place its importance on potential, possibility, goals, and the future.  However, being bound to a body that needs warmth, nourishment, and security are all lunar consciousness necessities, and without this grounded reality our ability to manifest our solar desires and personal contentment are minimized.

In this episode, Jacki and I explore the different connections and meanings of the Moon that are beyond the traditional keywords of feelings and emotions.  Plus, we explore the goddesses of the Moon and how amplifying their symbols help us to understand the Moon and any lunar dysfunctions that may occur if the Moon is not properly expressed in the horoscope.

Before you begin this episode, I do ask that you put any preconceived ideas, meanings, or associations you have with the Moon on a shelf.  This will help you grasp the concepts discussed easier.

King of Pentacles -- Aries

Spring Cleaning

King of Pentacles -- Aries Spring is one of my favorite times of the year because I like things crisp – always have!  I have no clue why, but when things get disorganized, too busy, and feels cluttered, I tend to feel uncomfortable and on edge.  I suppose it could be my Mercury conjunct Pluto in Virgo in the 12th house, but when things are not nice and tidy, I get urges to renovate and organize.

Since spring is fully upon us, I have decided to do a small bit of renovation on my blog.  After all, this is my home on the web and I like feeling comfortable in my home.  I have recently updated some of the photos and over the coming months I may decide to do a complete design change – although to be honest, l like the crisp blue.

The biggest change that I am going to make is moving the daily cosmic weather forecast (my term for my daily astrology musings) and put them on my Facebook page.  Now, I will continue to do astrological blog posts on my blog, but I want to focus blog posts on the larger astrological picture and my successful free online astrology course Astro 101.

I am always curious about what the tarot has to say about certain topics.  So I pulled a card from the tarot asking the question, “What is spring cleaning?”  The card that I pulled is the King of Pentacles!  In the Rider Waite Smith deck, the King of Pentacles shows a man sitting on his throne with the fruits of his abundance surrounding him.  His robe is covered with plant life symbolizing growth and abundance and he holds a scepter in one hand and a pentacle in the other.  He is in control of his domain and is the fertile force of his kingdom.  In many ways, the card reflects our need to do spring cleaning in order to continue the harvest.  After all, you have to pull out the old weeds in order for the plants to grow.  Once everything is all nice and clean, we can sit on our throne like the King and really enjoy our accomplishments.

Mystical Secrets of Passover -- Storm Cestavani

Releasing Yourself From the Bondage of Inner Slavery

Mystical Secrets of Passover -- Storm CestavaniA few weeks ago, Jacki Smith called me and asked a rather simple question – “What is a miracle?”  To be frank, it is a rather interesting question that has eluded the secular world for eons.  In fact, pop culture has “dumbed down” miracles to the point that it’s a glamorous word that more closely resembles luck or fortunate happenstance than anything divine.  Needless to say, the word is perplexing.  I was plagued pondering the meaning to this for several days.  Of course, I eventually pushed miracles aside and began to study Passover.

During the season of Passover we celebrate the Israeli liberation from the Egyptian Pharaoh and the story is found in the book of Exodus.  It occurs on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Ares (Nissan) and always occurs during a full moon.  According to the story in Exodus (Shemot in Hebrew), God inflicts ten plagues upon the Egyptians culminating with the worst of the ten plagues being the “death” of the Egyptian first born.  In order to protect the Israelites, God instructed them to make their doorsteps with the blood of a slaughtered lamb so that the spirit of the Lord knew to “pass over” the Israeli first born – which is why the holiday is named Passover.

5 must listen to episodes of Keep It Magic

5 Keep It Magic Topics You Do Not Want To Miss

5 must listen to episodes of Keep It MagicIn the summer of 2011, I was in an awkward state.  I began psychotherapy a few months earlier for unresolved sexual abuse trauma and social anxiety disorder.  I was doing well – or at least better than I had for the 10 years prior.  I was getting the relief I needed, and began to live my life rather than let life live me.  After doing years of radio prior (hosting 2 radio shows and the co-host of another), doing another radio show was the last thing I thought I would do.

Enter – Jacki Smith!

Jacki and I had worked on a radio show together in the past.  She contacted me to see if I would help her with her own show which she wanted to call “Keep It Magic”.  I offered to help her get her show going and would host the first 10 episodes with her so that she would eventually feel comfortable running her own show.

Keep It Magic was born in the fall of 2011.  It is now the spring of 2014 and we are in the middle of our third season.  I guess you can see that Jacki talked me into more than ten episodes.  Moreover, the last 100 episodes of KIM (our shortened name for Keep It Magic) have been awe inspiring, transformative, and the most fun I have had in radio.  Our goal is to provide our listeners with as much content as possible in order to help them achieve their own personal desires in their lives.

In order to celebrate this milestone accomplishment, I have put together a list of my favorite “Keep It Magic” episodes.  These are the episodes that helped change my perspective on living and helped me “Keep It Magic” in my own life.  Hopefully, they will help create some magic in yours!

5.  Honor Thy Mother and Father With Reservations:

This episode was produced during the holidays and one of the most frustrating and stressful time for our listeners.  Often we are forced to deal with relatives that we have unresolved issues with and/or have to deal with past traumas of our childhood.  This episode explores how to honor your roots and at the same time remain an individual and firmly planted in your boundaries.

4.  Getting Your Needs Met Once and For All: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3

This series was divided into three parts.  Jacki and I explored needs from a spiritual, magical, and astrological perspective.  This is a great show if you feel lack in your life and what you come up empty handed in regards to getting your needs met.  Sometimes what we think we need and what we really need are actually different.

3.  Does God Really Wear Lipstick?  Part 1 and Part 2.

In this series we explored Karen Berg’s book, “God Wears Lipstick – Kabbalah for Women”.  Since I know Kabbalah and its theories pretty well, listening to Jacki’s experience was rather interesting to say the least.  Her first reaction was that Kabbalah had the same misogynistic ideals as other Judeo Christian religions, but as she got deeper into the book she realized how different it actually is. This series will teach you the Kabbalistic purpose for women on this planet and how they can help others achieve fulfillment.

2.  Dispelling Inner Ghosts and Demons:  Part 1 and Part 2

During the month of October, Jacki and I decided to take a detour away from the traditional pagan and Wiccan ideals of Samhain and instead focused on the inner world.  If you are haunted by things from your past and need to learn how to manage your personal ghosts then these episodes will truly waken you up to how much our personal hauntings control us in our day to day lives.

And finally…

1. Getting to the Core of Your Desire.

Danielle LaPorte’s latest book, “The Desire Map” is one of the most transformative books of my life.  It is ground breaking and eye opening.  If you live your life based on attempting to achieve goals and satisfaction through the physical world, then this episode will help you flip the switch.  You will get to the root of your desire not through what you achieve, but rather though your feelings through the process.

Plus… don’t miss the latest episode of Keep It Magic

Astrological Modalities -- Lesson 3 -- Astro 101 -- Free Astrology Course by Storm Cestavani

Astro 101 — The Astrological Signs Part 3 — Astrological Modalities

Astrological Modalities -- Lesson 3 -- Astro 101 -- Free Astrology Course by Storm CestavaniAstro 101 – The Astrological Signs Part 3 — Astrological Modalities

In our last lesson we learned about the astrological elements (fire, earth, air, and water) and now is time that we move on to the third ingredient to prepare for interpretation which is the astrological modalities.  Additionally, everyone can get a copy of their horoscope which you can get for free on my website.   If you do not understand the chart, you can always check out the tutorial that I created to help you understand your horoscope.

Have you ever wondered why a Libra does not respond to life exactly the same way as an Aquarius?  How about Leo and Sagittarius?   There is a reason for this – every astrological element (fire, earth, air, and water) are divided into three subsections.  These subsections are called cardinal, fixed, and mutable in astrologese (that’s the language astrologers speak) and these subsections represent the modes or quality of a sign.  In essence, they represent the way that the sign orients itself to achieve something in the outer world.

In “Astrology for the Light Side of the Brain”, Kim Rogers – Gallagher has this to say about modalities:

“Qualities (modalities) show the signs “energy flow” and describes the general M.O. of a sign – that is, whether it’s more likely to lead, follow, or get out of the way.”

The three modalities are as follows:

Cardinal — Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn
Fixed – Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius
Mutable – Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces

Let’s Get to the Meat and Potatoes!

As I stated earlier each of the three elements are divided into three subsections.  These three subsections have different ways of manifesting the elemental qualities of the three signs that exists within each element.  In each case, the natural energy of the element remains the same.  All three of the fire signs seek to find potential and possibility and keeps its eye on the future, all three earth signs seek stability and like to create concrete structures in order to manifest life concretely, all three air signs seek to find meaningful patterns in order to perceive in a logical manner in which everything follows a system or pattern, and all three water signs seek to find meaning through its relationship with others and its tribalistic connection to an honored past.  However, each of the three signs achieve results in vastly different ways and a signs modality describes how the sign is going to take action.

The Cardinal Signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn)

The cardinal signs are the go-getters of the zodiac.  They love to start things up and get things rolling.  In the Jewish or Kabbalistic tradition, the world was created while the Sun was in the sign of Libra.   On day one (or 1 degree of Libra), the Hebrew Yahweh created the heavens and the earth and the process of creation began.  The cardinal signs are the ones that come up with all the wonderful ideas and are constantly in a state of creating, but unfortunately they often do not finish the projects they begin because they are quickly moving after the next thing.  They are natural leaders and they are often the instigators of action in the world.  However, when the cardinal planet is not working properly or operating from the shadow, they can be controlling, impatient, forceful, and conniving.  The cardinal signs need to realize that although they may create the most perfect mold, it is necessary to let the cement set in order for a structure to have a solid foundation.

The Fixed Signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius)

The fixed signs are the ‘stubborn’ signs of the zodiac.  They do not like to be pushed around and if you try to force them to do anything, you will find yourself in a pitch battle that you will most likely lose – that is unless you are fixed yourself and then you have achieved the classic ‘stalemate”.  Planets in the fixed signs are stable, like to get things done, and love to complete projects.  Whereas, cardinal signs like to begin things they often leave the fixed signs to manage them.   Fixed signs have enormous endurance and can often patiently wait for things to occur or manifest; whereas, the other modalities may have either moved on to the next thing or given up hope out of boredom.  However, this stabilizing quality of fixed signs often leads to rigidity and once a habit is formed it’s difficult to get them to let go of it.  Fixed signs like to feel established and are very determined to achieve their goals.  However, when the fixed planet is not working properly or is operating from the shadow, they can be obstinate, resistant to change, and their internal growth becomes stifled because they often stay stuck in their circumstances.  It is necessary for fixed signs to realize that although having a stable foundation and reliability are great qualities to have; sometimes, one must allow change to occur in order to stay with the times to foster future growth.

The Mutable Signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces)

The mutable signs like to remain flexible and keep all their options open.  Unlike cardinal signs that like to get things rolling and fixed signs that like to manage things, mutable signs like to remain interested in anything that they are interested in – and usually a lot of different things are on their never ending menus.  If mutable signs become disinterested in something they will often find something else that catches their attention and move on to it quickly without any regret.  Out of all three modalities, mutable signs are the most adjustable and adaptable to circumstances or situations.  They welcome change in its variety of manifestations because change is interesting and the last thing a mutable sign wants to be is bored.  Mutable signs like to avoid strife because conflict requires mental effort which mutable signs would rather use on things they may enjoy.  Mutable signs like to be flexible, versatile, and malleable.  However, when the mutable planet is not working properly or is operating from the shadow, they can be scattered, unfocused, distracted, and restless.  People with a majority of mutable planets need to realize that life is about change and adaptability, yet sometimes it is necessary to take charge and formulate decisions in order to find solid meaning in life.  Although mutable signs are the classic “jack of all trades”, they often make the mistake of never being a master of anything.

Putting It All Together

In our last lesson, we added up the planets to find out which element dominated the horoscope.  It might be beneficial for you to review that lesson once again.  We will do that again for the modalities – here is a cheat sheet for the astrological glyphs if you need them.  I will list them out for those who are not familiar with the glyph symbols.

currentmodalities

Here is a list of all the planets currently in the heavens at the time of this writing.

Sun 09 Capricorn
Moon 29 Scorpio
Mercury 09 Capricorn
Venus 28 Capricorn Rx
Mars 11 Libra
Ceres 22 Libra
Jupiter 17 Cancer Rx
Saturn 21 Scorpio
Chiron 10 Pisces
Uranus 9 Aries
Neptune 4 Pisces
Pluto 12 Capricorn

Below is an image to show you the grid I am using created with the program Solar Fire.  You can create a similar grid using the free astrological service available on my website.

The Breakdown:

8 planets in cardinal signs (Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Ceres, Jupiter, Uranus, and Pluto)
2 planets in fixed signs (Moon and Saturn)
2 planets in mutable signs (Chiron and Neptune)

Interpretation:

The current astrological planetary positions are overwhelmingly cardinal.  Someone born on this particular day (and I am sure that many babies were), leans towards being an initiator and go-getter.  Goals will be achieved by going out into the world to make things happen.  They are natural leaders, inventive, and will take charge of a situation or circumstance if given a chance. However, with both fixed and mutable planets deficient, it may be difficult for them to sit around and watching things develop, and they may experience difficulties communicating their ideas effectively because they have an adverse relationship with change.  It will be necessary to develop patience and malleability to achieve the far reaching success desired.
